The Rosette
rosetteHubble.jpg.jpg

The Rosette Nebula (aka Caldwell 49) is a large spherical H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 (Caldwell 50) is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter.

This is a false color rendition of the Rosette using the Hubble pallet color mapping technique. Ha is mapped to the green channel, OIII is mapped to the blue channel and SII is mapped to red channel, the result is this beautiful color showcasing this narrow-band light regions in color we can relate to.
