LND1622

LDN 1622; a star forming region found approximately 500 light-years away in the Orion constellation. It is home to several different types of nebulae; including two dark nebula (LDN 1622 itself and another small one), along with two emission nebulae â€” Magakian 159 or VdB 62  (the bright spot in the upper right-hand corner) and Magakian 160 or VdB 63 (the similarly shaped white orb directly below LDN 1622).

The Lion Nebula

The Lion Nebula, also known as Sharpless 132 (Sh2-132), is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. It's a region of active star formation, characterized by the presence of young, hot stars that emit intense ultraviolet radiation. This radiation ionizes the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to glow in the characteristic red color of hydrogen-alpha emission.
