In this deep-sky portrait of the Horsehead Nebula, captured with my OGMA Apo8CC CMOS camera boasting the cutting-edge Sony HDR IMx585 chip, the level of detail achieved in a remarkably short exposure time is truly astounding.

While the horse-shaped silhouette may elude the naked eye, it emerges with a dedicated astro camera, rendering the Horsehead Nebula a perennial favorite among astro photographers. Stacking of 300-second exposures, a mere hour's worth of data has unveiled a pretty decent image IMHO .

The Horsehead Nebula, also known as Barnard 33

Horsehead Nebula, also known as Barnard 33, is a dark nebula located in the constellation Orion. It sits within the emission nebula IC 434, which is illuminated by the nearby star Sigma Orionis. The distinctive shape of the Horsehead Nebula resembles that of a horse's head, hence its name.

M16, The Eagle Nebula

Evidence from the Spitzer Space Telescope suggests that the pillars in M16 may already have been destroyed by a supernova explosion. Due to the distance of the nebula, the light from the supernova would have reached Earth between 1000 and 2000 years ago. The more slowly moving shock wave from the supernova light showing us the destruction will not reach the Earth for another millennium.
